Business as usual for Bettsville Village Council in 2019

BETTSVILLE — The village council had its first meeting of the year at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month, in lieu of New Year’s Day falling on the first Tuesday.

The first matter of business was the election of Scott Harrison as council president followed by monthly reports from finance, police and fire representatives.

Chief Mike Snell shared the department’s readiness to make room for a new fire truck; and the council passed its first resolution of the year Рapproving a loan agreement and debt fund to finance the $89,797 truck.

During committee reports, members learned the complex acquired four surveillance cameras to monitor illegal trash dumping at recycle bin sites. Council approved ordinances allotting a raise for a village employee and to vacate the Monroe Street alley.

Council also learned the fire department raised almost $2,000 in the 2018 popcorn ball sale, discussed remaining truck parts and repairs, set a goal to have a park board up and running by summer and approved complex annexation.
