Council talks holiday events

REPUBLIC — Councilwoman Deb Durr Monday evening thanked many for their help with the Christmas parade in the village Sunday. She extended appreciation to Mayor Jeff Larick, council members Kevin Thompson, Jeff Moyer and Renee Lacey, and husband, Dave Durr, for organizing and preparing candy bags for the youth.

Kudos went out to businesses and residents of Republic for their donations. They included Sonic Hauling, Smokey’s Family Restaurant and Tap, Fatheads, Republic Banking Co., Reiter Plumbing and Repair, American Legion Auxiliary, Mary Lou Reiter and Thompson plus the parade participants.

Durr noted Breakfast with Santa is set for 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 15 at Smokey’s Family Restaurant and Tap.

Councilman Mike Schreiner noted the upcoming Sons of the Legion event, Salute to Our Veterans Night, Saturday at Meadowbrook Ballroom. Doors are to open at 5:30 p.m. and guests must be 18 years old or older. Entertainment is to include Clark Manson, Brent Lowry and the Drifters and the Eric Sowers Band.

Last year’s event raised $8,500 to assist local veterans. Visit for more information and tickets.

Larick said the village is looking at new tractor mowers and plans to provide the council with estimates for the next meeting to make a decision for a purchase.

In other business, council heard that all funds top $2 million, with $600,000 of that invested; and adopted the ordinance establishing 2019 temporary appropriations.

Council is to meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17.
