Corn burns in grain dryer Tuesday
A grain dryer was destroyed by fire in Thompson Township early Tuesday morning.
The owner was drying corn in the dryer at 11496 E. TR 148. There was a malfunction, and the corn caught fire inside the dryer, a spokesman for Bellevue Fire Department said.
The cause was undetermined Tuesday. The possible cause was a malfunction of an automatic gas shut-off value, the spokesman said.
There were about 550 bushels of corn in the dryer. The owner lost corn worth an estimated $2,200, and the value of the dryer, which was destroyed, and equipment was about $85,000, he said.
No one was hurt, he said.
Bellevue Fire Department, Green Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department and North Central EMS responded to the fire, which was reported at 5:45 a.m.
