City looks at downtown outdoor refreshment area

Legislation was presented on the proposed DORA Monday during a Tiffin City Council meeting.

Council has scheduled a Committee of the Whole meeting for 7 p.m. Oct. 29 for further discussion.

The DORA is a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area to be located in downtown Tiffin. The DORA would allow individuals to carry alcohol in designated cups during set dates and hours within a specific district. The legislation presented is to begin the process of establishing a DORA in downtown Tiffin, which would begin in 2019.

During the meeting a public hearing was scheduled to hear any comments on a proposed ordinance on petition No. 909 about an alley vacation of the first alley west of North Monroe Street running south from Adams Street. No comments were made on the petition and ordinance — which has had its first reading by council — but the matter was tabled due to stipulations made from council not being met by the petitioner.

Council approved:

• Ordinance 18-57 to amend the budget to provide funds for pay and benefits to assist the finance director.

• Ordinance 18-60 to amend the 2018 budget to increase the health insurance expense line in the Engineer’s Department.

Meetings announced were:

• Finance Committee meeting at 4 p.m. Oct. 22 with a Personnel and Labor Relations meeting immediately following.

• Special Committee of the Whole meeting at 4 p.m. Nov. 8 to discuss the city budget.
