Man trapped after two vehicle crash
Crews responded to a two-vehicle accident on East CR 38 Friday night.
Trooper Donte Hanns of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Cory Decker, 32, of Tiffin, was traveling in a 2006 Ford and went left of center and struck a 2004 MC box truck driven by Raymond Ritter, 60, of Fremont, head-on. The box truck went off the right side of the road, struck a tree and caught on fire, he said.
Chief Greg Lowe of Green Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department said by the time crews had arrived at the scene, neighbors already had put the fire out with fire extinguishers.
Ritter was trapped inside and it took about half an hour to get him out of the vehicle, Lowe said. Lowe said personnel used their hydraulic Jaws-of-Life and Ram tool to extricate the driver and cribbing to stabilize the vehicle.
A Seneca County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said there was a transport by North Central EMS to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital.
Further information was not available Saturday.
The accident was reported at 8:42 p.m. and North Central EMS, Green Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department and State Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Life Flight was called, but was disregarded, a Seneca County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.
