Tiffin ranked in top 50 safest college towns

According to SafeWise’s third annual report — Safest College Towns in America — Tiffin was ranked 18 in the top 50 of the safest college towns.

SafeWise used its safety experts to analyze the FBI’s most recent crime statistics from 2016 to calculate the total number of violent crimes committed in American college towns. Cities needed to exceed 15,000 residents and be home to an accredited college that offered four-year degrees.

Referred to as “The Education Community,” Tiffin includes Heidelberg and Tiffin universities. The report stated the property per crimes per 1,000 people was 23.70 percent with a population of about 17,637 people. Violent crimes were at 0.74 percent per 1,000 people.

The report also made mention of the Safety City program — an annual program for students from kindergarten through third grade that teaches them about biking, walking, care and fire safety.
