T-SPL combines teen and children services into one department

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library has seen many changes over the past few years with renovations to the interior of the building. More changes have come to streamline children and teen services.

Ashley Meece is the new youth services manager at the library. She has been employed with T-SPL for two years and worked primarily with teen programming.

The junior department and children’s department now have come together to be known as the Youth Services Department.

Meece said the library’s children’s and teen departments are going through a rebranding. The staff is to remain the same, with Becky Oswalt, Angie Church and — new to the children’s library — Lori Hodkinson.

Meece said teh department wants to be more consistent with its programming and to be able to have a broader age range for more people to enjoy the library’s services.

For example, Meece said the library will implement a family story time for all ages to enjoy in the evening and alternating Fridays. Also, the program Playtime @ Your Library is to be offered twice a month instead of once, she said.

Family story time is to start at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13, 20 and 27 and at 10 a.m. Sept. 14 and 28.

“Now, entire families can come instead of having to split up,” Meece said.

Programming for babies, toddlers and preschoolers is to remain the same, as well as programming for teens, such as Teen Tuesdays, Craftastic, Anime Club, Teen Advisory Board and the Lego Saturday program, which is for all ages.

Meece said they are just “hitting the ground running” and more changes are to come for winter and spring.

“Living her for two years, I know this community and I enjoy being a part of this community,” she said. “This was the opportunity for us to implement our vision for the youth of Tiffin.”

The library also is gearing up for the annual Storybook Festival in October. The theme is “Goodnight Moon” and crafts, games and non-profit organizations are to set up at Tiffin Middle School.
