OLD FORT — A Florida man was hurt when the semi he was driving rolled into a ditch Wednesday morning.

Trooper Austin Young of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Roland Morito, 48, was driving the semi and trailer, which had about 44,000 pounds of material from Arm and Hammer.

Young said Morito was driving north on TR 75, and he thought Morito got over too far to the right. The semi rolled into the ditch.

Young said Morito, who was going to be cited with failure to control, was taken by North Central EMS to ProMedica Fremont Memorial Hospital. Morito’s injuries were non-life-threatening, Lt. Brent Meredith said.

Chief Craig Mellott of Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department said rescue personnel had to help Morito get out. Morito was suspended by a seatbelt, and Mellott said personnel cut him free with scissors.

“Thank God he’s OK,” he said.

Personnel from John’s Welding and Towing assisted at the scene.

The accident was reported about 10:20 a.m.
