Sycamore Street was closed Tuesday morning due to a garbage truck striking a utility pole.

About 10:15 a.m., Jonathon T. Mays, 29, of Mansfield, had stopped a 2014 Mack Rumpke Waste & Recycling truck facing west on Hampden Park at Sycamore Street.

Mays made a right turn onto Sycamore Street and was attempting to avoid traffic cones that were placed on the center line of Sycamore Street, a Tiffin Police Department report states.

The vehicle turned too sharply, and its side struck an American Electric Power pole, it states.

The pole was broken off about 10 feet above the ground.

Mays was cited with improper right turn and was not hurt, according to the report.

Sycamore Street was closed between Ella and Gibson streets as crews worked at the scene.

Tiffin Fire Rescue Division and AEP assisted.
