SR 12 crash injures 7

FOSTORIA — Seven people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on SR 12, west of Fostoria, Friday afternoon.

According to a release from the Findlay post of State Highway Patrol, Brenton Hurt, 33, of Tiffin, was stopped facing west on SR 12 in a Ford Ranger waiting to turn left on TR 218 with Alberto Gutierrez, 27, of Tiffin, and Ryan Bintz, 34, of Tiffin.

Joseph Heibeck, 31, of Fostoria, was traveling west on SR 12 in a Ford Windstar with Kimberly Lambert, 33; Isabella Heibeck, 1; Catrina Dunn, 27; and Teresa Glover, 51, all of Fostoria. Joseph Heibeck failed to maintain safe assured clear distance ahead and struck the Ranger, which was pushed into a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Heather Hickle, 32, of Fostoria. The Ranger went off the right side of the road and struck a gas line marker and a stop sign, the release states.

Bintz was not wearing his seatbelt and was transported by Washington Township EMS to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital. He later was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, the release states.

Bintz was listed in critical condition Friday night, according to a ProMedica Toledo Hospital spokeswoman.

Joseph Heibeck was transported by Washington Township EMS to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and Hurt was transported by Hanco EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the release states. Joseph Heibeck and Hurt were wearing seatbelts.

Lambert and Isabella Heibeck were transported by Washington Township EMS to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The release states Dunn and Glover were transported by Hanco EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Lambert and Glover were wearing their seatbelts and Isabella Heibeck was secured in a child safety seat. Dunn was not wearing a seatbelt, it states.

Hickle and Gutierrez were not injured and were wearing their seatbelts.

The release states Joseph Heibeck was issued a citation for assured clear distance ahead.

SR 12 was closed temporarily while crews worked at the scene.

The accident was reported at 1:22 p.m. and Hanco EMS, Washington Township EMS, Washington Township Fire Department, State Highway Patrol, Fostoria Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Mac and Bob’s Towing, Frank’s Towing and BG Towing responded to the scene.
