Terra State president resigns

FREMONT — The Terra State Community College Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Jerome Webster, the college’s president, during a special board meeting Wednesday, a college representative said.

Webster submitted his resignation and will remain on as president until May 31, according to Ronald Schumacher, who was named interim president.

Schumacher is Terra’s senior vice president and executive director of the College Foundation. He is to work with Webster on a smooth transition.

In a press release, Kay E. Reiter, chair of the board of trustees, stated, “We can assure you, we are not only collectively prepared, but we are also collectively in agreement with this decision. …

“The board respects and understands there will be many questions as we make progress during this transition. We want to accommodate those questions and we’ll provide information as we are able and within the scope of authority to do so. An executive team meeting will be planned before the end of this week to assist in keeping the transition moving forward.”

Most of the trustees meeting took place during executive session, Schumacher said.

Webster has served Terra State since 2012.

Webster could not be reached Wednesday for comment.
