Old Fort school board prepares for summer

OLD FORT — With just two weeks left until school recesses for the summer, Monday’s Old Fort School Board meeting focused on financials and allocation of funds to upcoming building improvements.

The main project is renovation of the high school music room and the replacement of doors throughout the building with solid wood doors meant to better conceal and protect students.

Other quality-of-life improvements to the building include adding two rows of seats in gymnasium, new drinking fountains and new desks.

Money also is being allocated to the school’s summer credit recovery program, an alternative to traditional summer school.

Projects under consideration for the future include air conditioning for the computer lab, a public address system which allows for emergency broadcasts to be made from multiple locations and a new fire alarm system. No time-frame for the projects has been set.
