Man pleads guilty to lesser sex charge
A Tiffin man withdrew his guilty plea to a rape charge and pleaded guilty to a lesser-included sex-related charge during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Kelbley’s courtroom Thursday afternoon.
Bryce J. Snyder, 20, had been sentenced to a mandatory nine-year prison term last year after pleading guilty to a charge of rape, a first-degree felony, for behavior involving an 11-year-old girl. He had been classified as a Tier III sex offender.
He withdrew the guilty plea and pleaded guilty to a charge of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony, Thursday.
Kelbley sentenced him to four years in prison, with credit for 457 days served, and classified him as a Tier II sex offender.
Snyder declined to speak before sentencing.
Two other men were sentenced to prison for incidents involving the same girl.
Jaron M. Burns, 19, of Tiffin, initially was indicted by a Seneca County grand jury on a charge of rape, a first-degree felony. A mistrial was declared when a jury was unable to reach a verdict during a trial last year.
After the trial, Burns was served with a superseding indictment. In addition to being charged with rape, he was charged with gross sexual imposition and importuning, both third-degree felonies, according to his indictment.
Burns pleaded guilty to a charge of gross sexual imposition, and the rape and importuning charges were dismissed.
Kelbley followed the joint sentence recommendation and sentenced Burns to four years in prison. Burns was classified as a Tier II sex offender.
Matthew A. Perry, 21, of Tiffin, pleaded guilty to a charge of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony, and was sentenced to three years in prison.
