A Bradner man was hospitalized in Toledo after an accident at US 224 and SR 587 Tuesday afternoon.

Trooper Don Pratt of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said James Kingseed, 53, of McCutchenville, was driving a 2018 Kenworth dump truck west on US 224. Kipp Saam, 45, of Bradner, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup south on SR 587.

Saam failed to stop at the stop sign and Kingseed said the pickup never slowed down, Pratt said.

He said he thought the dump truck hit the driver’s side door of the pickup, knocking the bed off the pickup truck’s frame and spinning the bed around to the front of the truck.

“(It) basically ripped it off the back,” he said.

Pratt said Saam was talking and conscious. Saam was taken by Bascom EMS to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital and was being transported to ProMedica The Toledo Hospital, he said.

A spokeswoman for ProMedica The Toledo Hospital said Saam was in the observation unit Tuesday night.

Pratt said Kingseed was not hurt. He said he didn’t know whether the men were wearing seatbelts.

Saam was going to be cited with failure to yield from a stop sign, Pratt said.

Personnel from Bascom EMS, Bascom Joint Fire District and the Echo unit responded to the accident, according to Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported about 12:30 p.m.
