Man dies after shooting at cruiser

TIRO — A man who shot at a State Highway Patrol trooper’s car and pointed a gun at officers died after being shot, according to Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was identified by the sheriff’s office as Aaron C. Fike, 27.

A release from the sheriff’s office states the trooper was driving north on SR 39 in Crawford County about 9:41 p.m. Monday when he saw a man walking along the road. The trooper stopped and determined the man had a shotgun, and the man fired a shot at the patrol car and fled on foot in a field, it states.

Personnel from Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby Police Department and Richland County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

Fike entered his home, came back outside, approached officers, refused to obey commands, pointed a gun at officers and was shot by officers, the release states.

Officers performed CPR, but Fike died from his injuries, it states.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office and Crawford County Coroner’s Office assisted.
