Two people were injured in an accident at SR 53 and US 224 Thursday evening.

Trooper Jake Mellinger of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Jacob Render, 21, of Attica, was traveling west on US 224 in a 2004 Chevrolet Impala and was in the turn lane. Render turned and struck head-on a 2005 Ford Explorer driven by Christine Courtney, 42, of Tiffin, traveling east on US 224.

Render and Courtney were transported by Bascom EMS to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Mellinger said.

Render was cited with failure to yield while turning left, he said.

Mellinger said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Assistant Chief Chris Daniel of Bascom Joint Fire District said a LifeStar ambulance was coming to the intersection when the accident happened and was able to evaluate the injured.

The accident was reported at 6:31 p.m. and Bascom EMS, Bascom Joint Fire District, the Echo unit, State Highway Patrol and John’s Welding and Towing responded to the scene.
