Perez sworn in to school board
The board of education of Tiffin City Schools met for its annual organizational meeting Tuesday evening, welcoming and swearing in a new board member.
Victor Perez was sworn in as the newly elected member after winning against Randall Schwartz in November.
The board approved the appointment of Chris Widman as the board’s president for another year and elected Andrew Gase as vice president.
The board also appointed members to serve on the district’s outside committees. The business advisory council and the legislative liaison will be Perez; finance committee and the pre K-5 task force are Gase; communications and marketing are Jeffrey Hoyda; program and wellness committees are Dean Henry; support services, personnel and records committee are Widman.
Widman also is to serve on the Vanguard-Sentinel Joint Vocational School District Board of Education for a three-year term.
Appointed as the board delegates for the Ohio School Board Association 2018 Fall Conference were Henry and Perez. The conference takes place in November.
The board also approved the standing authorizations for the calendar year, including advance on taxes collected, payment of bills, then and now certificates, employment of temporary personnel, appointment of purchasing agent, state and federal programs, board service fund, certificate and available sources and legal counsel.
Another appointment made during the calendar year was for the superintendent to act as the agent to the board for all federal, state and privately funded projects, which the board approved during the meeting.
The year’s meeting dates also were approved. Dates are Jan. 23, Feb. 27, March 27, April 24, May 22, June 26, July 24, Aug. 28, Sept. 25, Oct. 23, Nov. 27 and Dec. 18. All meetings are at 7 p.m. at the Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Drive.
The board entered executive session to confer with the board’s attorney concerning matters which are the subject of pending or imminent court action. No action was taken.
In another matter, the board approved the alternative tax budget which was presented during the December board meeting.
The board is to meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Drive.
