Man injured in accident

A man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at East Market and Circular streets early Friday morning.

Sgt. Jared Watson of Tiffin Police Department said Michael D. Ball, 45, of Fostoria, was traveling west on East Market Street in a 2002 Ford Taurus. He said Ball was heading the wrong way on the street, failed to negotiate the curve at Circular Street, went off the south side of the road and struck a support pillar at the former BP gas station, 254 E. Market St.

Ball was transported by Tiffin Fire Rescue Division to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Watson said.

He said Ball was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to control, open container and driving under suspension.

Ball was not wearing a seatbelt, Watson said.

At 12:55 a.m., Tiffin Police Department received a report of a driver sleeping at the railroad tracks on East Market Street, Watson said. He said the caller then reported the driver ran a red light at East Market and Perry streets.

Tiffin Fire Rescue Division, Tiffin Police Department and John’s Welding and Towing responded to the scene.
