Ritz plans auditions for ‘Deathtrap’

The Ritz Players are to host open auditions for its production of “Deathtrap” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday in The National Theatre, 30 S. Washington St.

Performance dates are Feb. 16, 17, 24 and 25.

There are roles for three men ages 20-60 and two woman ages 40-60.

The production, by Ira Levin, features Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers. Seemingly comfortably ensconced in his charming Connecticut home, he is struggling to overcome a dry spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. Then he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college — a thriller Bruhl recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit. Bruhl’s plan, which he devises with his wife, is to offer collaboration to the student, an idea the younger man quickly accepts. Thereafter, suspense mounts as the plot begins to twist and turn, with thrills and laughter that will hold audiences enthralled until the final moments.
