September unemployment rate down

Seneca County’s jobless rate decreased in September from August and is lower than estimates from last year.

According to information from Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in September, down from 4.6 percent in August. The rate in September 2016 was 4.3 percent.

According to statistics, there were about 26,100 people working in September, up 300 from August.

The civilian labor force, the estimate of all people working or looking for work, was 27,200 in September, up from 27,100 in August.

Unemployment estimates in surrounding counties decreased across the board.

Crawford County had the highest unemployment in September, at 5.3. percent. Hancock County had the lowest unemployment rate in the area, at 3.3 percent.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Ohio was 5.3 percent in September, down from 5.4 percent in August and up from 5 percent in September 2016.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 4.2 percent in September, down from 4.4 percent in August and down from 4.9 percent last September.
