Gas leak at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital

Tiffin Fire Rescue Division responded to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital, 45 Saint Lawrence Drive, for a gas leak Friday afternoon.

Capt. Jon Nutter of Tiffin Fire Rescue Division said a subcontractor at the hospital hit a 2-inch gas service line with a ditching machine.

When responders arrived, the gas line, which runs to the hospital, had been shut off and the department remained on scene for 50 minutes to make sure the area was safe, Nutter said.

He said the hospital was able to switch to oil and maintain all services.

“The hospital was able to continue doing everything it normally does,” Nutter said.

There was no threat or danger, he said.

Columbia Gas dispatched a crew to fix the line, Nutter said.

The gas leak was reported at 4:31 p.m.
