Tiffin leaf collection begins next week

According to a city of Tiffin news release, leaf collection begins Oct. 30 and is to continue through Dec. 15.

Leaves should be placed in city leaf bags, which are available at most area grocery and convenience stores, by 7 a.m. for pick up.

The weekly schedule is as follows:

• Monday: East of Washington Street and north of Market Street (First Ward).

• Tuesday: West of Washington Street and north of Market Street (Second Ward).

• Wednesday: West of Washington Street and south of Market Street (Third Ward).

• Thursday: East of Washington Street and south of Market Street (Fourth Ward).

Fridays are to be used for going back to pick up neighborhoods missed earlier in the week. There is no guarantee this list is to be followed exactly as written and work is weather permitting.

Residents also may take their bags 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. seven days a week, to the Water Pollution Control Center, 961 N. Water St.

WSOS opens heating program

Area residents who need help heating their home may receive financial assistance through the WSOS Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program until March 31.

EHEAP, which begins Nov. 1, provides utility assistance for Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wood county residents who have received a utility shut-off notice or already have had a utility disconnect, as well as households with a heating supply (propane, fuel oil, wood, kerosene, coal or corn pellets) that will last fewer than 10 days.

Eligible applicants must have a household income of no greater than 175 percent of federal poverty guidelines (e.g. up to $43,050 for a family of four). Interested applicants can make an appointment with WSOS to see if they qualify. Applicants must bring a picture ID, proof of permanent disability if applicable, Social Security numbers for all household residents and documentation of the income for all household residents ages 18 and older for three months prior to their appointment date and their electric and heating bills.

WSOS also will be taking walk-in appointments 9 a.m.-3 p.m. until March 31 in Fremont, 109 S. Front St., and in Bowling Green at the Jordan Family Development Center, 812 N. College Drive.
