TCS chief enters plea

Tiffin City Schools’ superintendent made a no contest plea in Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court Judge Mark Repp’s courtroom Monday.

Gary Barber pleaded no contest to charges of an OVI violation, a first-degree misdemeanor, and failure to control violation, a minor misdemeanor.

Barber, who was appointed TCS superintendent in March, was charged in May.

“The Tiffin City School Board of Education has provided me a tremendous opportunity to lead the charge to make this district a great place for students, staff, families and community,” Barber said Tuesday. “Rest assured that my commitment and promise to the Tiffin — community and school system — City School families is to make you proud.”

According to court documents, Barber was placed on non-reporting probation for one year and had his driver’s license suspended for six months, but was approved for unrestricted driving privileges.

Barber is to pay a $375 fine for the OVI charge and a $90 fine for the moving violation.

“The partnerships we are forming within the Tiffin community, along with the trust and support I have received from the board, are both humbling and energizing,” he said. “It is important for people to know that I regret and apologize for the decision I made in May before I became an official member of the TCS family.

“I remain very positive and intend to make things right and will use this as an opportunity to build and grow personally and professionally.”
