Weather wreaks havoc on roads
Seneca County was under a Level 1 snow emergency and the area was under a winter weather advisory.
A car left the road on SR 12 around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Trooper Matt Davis of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Alexus Chaffee, 19, of Fostoria, was driving a 1994 Buick LeSabre east on SR 12.
“She said she lost control when she hit the patch of snow,” he said.
Chaffee was taken to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was cited with failure to control, he said.
Personnel from Fostoria Fire Division and Kansas Volunteer Fire Department responded.
A couple of hours later, a vehicle struck another vehicle in the rear at SR 12 and CR 5.
Davis said Cynthia Armstrong, 54, of Fostoria, was driving a 2012 GMC Terrain and was slowing to turn north on CR 5. The vehicle was struck from behind by a 2014 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jeffrey Babjack, 45, of Sheffield Lake.
No one was hurt, and Babjack was cited with assured clear distance ahead, Davis said.
A vehicle went into a ravine at SR 101 and TR 169 about 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputy Denny Wilkinson of Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said Richard T. F. Dipold, 63, of Bellevue, lost control of a 2007 Honda and went off the road. The car went into a wooded area and struck a tree.
Wilkinson said Dipold was taken to The Bellevue Hospital.
North Central EMS and Green Springs Rural Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
A crash was reported on West US 224 about 12:30 p.m.
Jane Meisner, 75, of Tiffin, was driving a 2015 Ford Escape west on US 224, and Todd C. Olsen, 50, of Sylvania, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet truck pulling a trailer east on US 224, Wilkinson said.
Olsen lost control due to wind and blowing snow, went over the center line and hit Meisner’s vehicle in the left-hand side, he said.
Olsen was cited with failure to control, and they were not hurt, he said.
A car struck a pole on TR 112 about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A woman, whose identity was not available Tuesday night, was taken to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital by Bascom EMS.
Sgt. Jordan Schwochow of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said the vehicle was westbound on TR 112. The driver lost control and the vehicle went off the left side of the road, taking down a pole, he said.
A citation was not issued at the scene.
Schwochow said he did not know whether the woman was wearing a seatbelt.
Personnel from Bascom EMS, Bascom Joint Fire District, the county’s Echo unit, State Highway Patrol and American Electric Power assisted at the scene.
A citation of assured clear distance ahead was issued after a four-vehicle accident at Findlay and Lytle streets, in Fostoria, about 11 a.m. Tuesday. Fostoria Fire Division and Fostoria Police Department assisted at the scene.
A citation of failure to control was issued after an accident on Fostoria’s Findlay Street about 10:15 a.m.
