Board approves resident request for fence
By Bonnie Daniel
BLOOMVILLE – Residents Michael and Tyann Miles approached Bloomville Village Council Wednesday evening for a variance hearing to erect a six-foot fence around their front yard at 13 Liberty St. With little discussion, members granted the variance for the fence, which is to provide a safe area for their child.
Street Superintendent Rick Dentinger reported repairs to the metal roof on the pool house are to cost $1,900. He said the 1999 dump truck needs a new injection pump and a new cutting edge needs to be ordered for the snow plow. Council granted the purchase of the cutting edge and two batteries needed for the roof repairs.
Police Chief Howard Minzer reported the village block watch program requested to have two “children at play” signs erected on Maple Street. Dentinger is to see that they are installed.
Dentinger is seeking quotes to have several portions of streets paved.
He said the swimming pool has been drained and the staining in the pool is pronounced. He has taken pictures and sent them to Renosys, installer of the new liner in the pool last year. Upon closer examination, nine seams have been found that are not welded. The company said the staining is not their responsibility. Both the liner and the welding are guaranteed for 15 years. He is awaiting a response from the company.
Also regarding the pool, clerk Janis Weasner said attendance was low this summer and lifeguards are hard to find. She said the pool lost money for the season, but she did not have the final figures as yet.
Council discussed possible changes for next year to increase attendance and recruit lifeguards.
