Theft from elderly brings Tiffin man 4 1/2 years in prison
A Tiffin man was recently sentenced to 54 months in prison for convictions including theft and theft from an elderly person.
Jeffrey S. Collins, 49, who had pleaded guilty in May to three counts of theft from an elderly person, two of which are a fourth-degree felony and the other a third-degree felony, and one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony, was sentenced to 12-month prison terms on three offenses and 18 months on the other by Seneca County Common Pleas Judge Steve Shuff, according to court documents. The sentences are to be served consecutively, for a total of 54 months.
Shuff also ordered Collins to pay a total of $21,229.50 in restitution to four victims, court documents state.
Collins had been indicted on the charges for taking payments last year for home repairs he did not perform. One victim was an elderly man who was deprived of money, while another victim was an 83-year-old woman.
Down payments from area residents totaled more than $2,000, officials said.
