Mohawk bids projects, hires staff
SYCAMORE – Mohawk Local Schools Board of Education met in special session Monday evening to address personnel issues and to consider bids for permanent improvements.
Hired on one-year contracts were Lindsey Kalb, preschool; Samantha Middleton, grade 4; Melissa Voorhees, grade 3; Gemma White, K-3 intervention specialist; and Darcy Allen, high school vocal music. Tanya O’Flaherty was hired as a preschool aide.
The board approved a bid of $84,690 from Beynon for resurfacing of the eight-lane track. There is to be a two-year warranty on the project. The life span of the track is projected to be eight to 10 years.
CRM Inc. won the bid to replace the roof on the MCI building at a cost of $90,988 and $30,117 for the bus garage roof. These projects are to replace the original roof installed in 1985.
M&B Asphalt was approved for three paving projects: a portion of the field house parking lot, for $26,300; MCI drive and lot, for $17,300; and adding a 90-foot circular turnaround to the MCI drive, for $13,800.
The board discussed options for replacing wooden stadium bleachers. The board selected the option of installing 151-foot-long bleachers, at a cost of $80,000.
With this option, the four portable stands could be repositioned to better suit track and soccer events. The new stands will be handicap-accessible.
The board instructed Superintendent Ken Ratliff to get estimates for the installation of a handicap ramp for the home side and
replacement of existing steps.
Ratliff said he was not comfortable with the bids received for the replacement of the compressor.
The board requested Ratliff research options for replacements, as well as for a redesign of the system.
He assured the board there is time to explore options because the project would not be started until November, when the compressors and chillers no longer are in use.
The board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. July 21.
