Missing man found safe

Neighbors and rescue workers from two volunteer fire departments helped locate a missing elderly man with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases who walked away from his residence Saturday morning.

The Van Meter Drive man, who was reported missing around 8 a.m., was located safe by Sycamore Volunteer Fire and Rescue personnel about 10:15 a.m. at the Seneca County Agency Transportation building, about a mile from his Eden Township home. His wife awoke at 7:30 a.m. and noticed he was not in the house, said Deputy Denny Wilkinson of Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Personnel from McCutchenville and Sycamore volunteer fire departments responded to help search for him, and a crew member kayaked in Lake Mohawk.

Seneca County’s water rescue team was on standby. Chief Bryan Clouse of Sycamore Volunteer Fire and Rescue said there was a concern about the possibility of the man wandering toward Lake Mohawk or other bodies of water.

Wilkinson expressed appreciation for the man’s neighbors at Lake Mohawk who helped in the search.
