Crash kills Fostoria man

FOSTORIA – A fiery accident at CR 23 and TR 218 in Hancock County’s Washington Township claimed the life of a Fostoria man and injured an Alvada woman and two children Saturday evening.

According to a release from Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Richard Bailey, 54, of Fostoria, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. He had been driving a 1999 Dodge Durango.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, was Jody Fruth, 39, of Alvada. She and her two passengers, Jordan Ferguson, 9, and Jasmine Ferguson, 1, were taken to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital, the release states.

The Durango caught fire, Chief Tom Moses of Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department said.

The crash, which was under investigation Saturday night, was reported at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Personnel from Fostoria Fire Division, Fostoria Police Department, Hanco EMS, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
