ATV runs over 6-year-old boy, crushing helmet
FLAT ROCK – Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident involving a 6-year-old boy who got run over by a four-wheeler on the Fourth of July that was reported Tuesday afternoon.
According to a report, the child was flown to Akron Children’s Hospital and remained hospitalized Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Denny Wilkinson said the boy from Norwalk was a passenger on the vehicle, and a 12-year-old boy from Bellevue was driving it backward, racing someone.
The passenger was thrown from the vehicle, and it ran over his abdomen.
Wilkinson said the 6-year-old boy is lucky to be alive.
“It just crushed (his helmet). Thank God the kid had a helmet on,” he said.
The 12-year-old boy was not injured, Wilkinson said.
The sheriff’s office report indicates the incident was not reported until 1:39 p.m. Tuesday. It was under investigation Tuesday evening.
