Safety Day for children set for Sunday in Walmart lot
The Seneca County Firemen’s Association will be hosting its annual Safety Day Sunday in the Walmart parking lot.
Jim Nagle, president of the Seneca County Firemen’s Association, said the event is free and will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Activities are to include a live burn that children can extinguish with a fire extinguisher, a race in which youngsters can put on firefighter gear plus hands-on CPR training. Firefighters also will be teaching kids about the motto “Stop, Drop and Roll” as well as other fire safety and emergency tips.
“There’s just a lot of things for the kids,” Nagle said. “We do this just to bring the safety factor to kids and teach about them about making plans with their families if there’s ever an emergency.”
Nagle said several area fire departments and EMS, along with the water rescue team also will be at the event.
Nagle said the firefighters’ association has been hosting Safety Day for several years and the turnout is always high.
“We have a very good response,” he said. “We welcome anyone to come out.”
