Police: We saw man endangering child

A Fostoria man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly injured his 3-month-old daughter by kicking and shaking her stroller.

Michael A. Vain, 51, was arrested and charged with child endangerment, a third-degree felony, and domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor, after he was witnessed allegedly shaking and kicking a stroller carrying his infant daughter, according to court documents from Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court. A caller had reported the incident around 8 a.m. in the area of Maple and East High streets.

Officers located Vain at his Stadium Drive residence and witnessed him again shake the stroller and strike it on the ground, court documents state. During the incident, the infant was secured in the stroller.

Officers located a bruise above the girl’s eye and no reasonable explanation was given when Vain was asked about it, according to court documents.

The infant was transported to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital by her mother and then taken to Toledo Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

“It’s undetermined how badly the victim was hurt,” Assistant Law Director Charles Hall said during Vain’s initial appearance in court Tuesday afternoon.

Vain, who is being held at the Seneca County Jail, had his bond set at $60,000 Tuesday by Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court Judge Mark Repp.
