Man killed in farm accident

REPUBLIC – A Scipio Township man was killed when a farm tractor flipped on him while he was working in his yard.

Deputy Christopher Potter said it appeared Dan Ohler, 59, was trying to pull out a tree or large bush in his front yard at 8608 E. CR 38. At some point, the tractor ended up being upright and flipped back on top of him, he said.

“The tires just spun. (It’s) just a horrible accident,” he said.

A passerby saw smoke coming from the overturned tractor, Potter said.

“She actually shut the tractor off,” he said. “They tried to free him, but he was pinned.”

Ohler, who was by himself when the incident occurred, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Personnel from the Seneca County Coroner’s Office, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Seneca County’s Echo unit and Republic fire and EMS responded to the scene.

The incident was reported at 5:38 p.m., a Seneca County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
