Tiffin city council to consider server upgrade, city hall Wi-Fi

At a Materials and Equipment committee meeting Monday, members forwarded legislation to Tiffin City Council allowing for the installation of wireless Internet for City Hall.

Mayor Aaron Montz said not having wireless in the building was a detriment to consultants or visitors who had information or presentations online. Montz said he often has to unplug his Internet router to allow for visitors to access the server.

A new, wireless server would be more secure for employees and include a secure login for public use. Landlines still would be included in the new system.

The server would include City Hall and the Finance Department and would be installed by the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center.

The request for $8,000 is to upgrade the current system and it is a one-time investment, Montz said.

The committee requested that Law Director Brent Howard prepare legislation to amend the budget for the purchase.
