Marathon president to speak at TU commencement
The chief of Marathon Petroleum Corp. is to be the featured speaker for Tiffin University’s 2014 commencement ceremony next weekend.
Gary Heminger, president and CEO of Marathon, began at the company in 1975 and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tiffin University in 1976. He also earned a master’s degree in business adminstration from the University of Dayton in 1982 and graduated from the Wharton School Advanced Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania according to a release from the university.
While at Marathon, Heminger held several administrative positions and was named president in 2001 and promoted to CEO in 2011.
“Mr. Heminger was selected as this year’s commencement speaker because of his impressive career as a business executive and his service as a member of the TU Board of Trustees since 1991 and as its chairman since 1996,” Tiffin University President Paul Marion said. “I hope that the graduates will benefit from hearing how Mr. Heminger succeeded in his career and his life based on hard work and integrity.”
The university expects there to be about 3,000 guests attending the ceremony, including undergraduate and graduate students. The ceremony is to take place in TU’s Heminger Center, which was named for the families of Gary and Jane Heminger.
According to a release provided by the university, in addition to serving as a board of trustee member at TU, Heminger also has served on the boards of the American Petroleum Institute and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, Fifth Third Bank Corp. and JobsOhio.
