Man appears for theft case

A man facing felony charges for allegedly taking payments for home repairs he did not perform pleaded not guilty Thursday to two counts of theft from an elderly person and one count of theft.

Jeffrey S. Collins, 49, appeared in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff’s courtroom Thursday afternoon where his bond was modified to $30,000 with 10 percent cash or surety allowed. His bond previously had been set at $30,000 with no percent cash or surety allowed.

Collins recently was indicted on the charges for taking payment from three people, one an 83-year-old woman, in May and June of last year without providing outdoor home repairs he proposed.

Down payments from the Seneca County residents were more than $2,000, law enforcement said.
