Fostoria council appoints chief

FOSTORIA – The appointment of the new police chief topped Tuesday night’s Fostoria City Council meeting.

After an executive session, Council unanimously voted to appoint Keith Loreno as the new chief.

“I’m certainly appreciative of council’s support. My first priority is to focus on getting an opportunity to speak to everyone who wants to address specific issues,” Loreno said.

Loreno is the current fire chief. He is to officially be appointed during the council meeting May 6.

Also during the meeting, council passed a resolution urging Ohio voters to support Ohio Issue 1. This issue involves the renewal of State Capital Improvements Program, and will be presented on the May 6 ballot.

In other news:

An ordinance was adopted which supplements the permanent appropriations in the Fostoria Housing Revolving Loan Fund for the 2014 Community Housing Improvement Program grants fund.

There were 2 first readings of ordinances amending the Official Zoning District Map of Fostoria. There is to be a public hearing at 6:50 p.m. May 20 to gain input about adopting the ordinances.

Columbia Gas is planning a public meeting at 5:45 p.m. May 6 at the City Building.
