New OSU extension agent named
Tuesday night, agricultural society members learned Jason Sidell has been chosen as the new Ohio State Extension agent. He has been a teacher in the Liberty-Benton school district and is from Sandusky County. He starts his new job March 24.
Ending her occupation as the extension office secretary, Cindy Scherger celebrates her retirement at a party sponsored by the advisory council 2:30-5:30 p.m. March 28.
President Cal Staib said the Ohio Fair Managers’ Association fall trip Sept. 27-Oct. 4 is to include stops at the Flight ’93 Memorial sight in Pennsylvania and Ground Zero in New York City this year.
New junior fair coordinator Nicole Hoover was introduced to board members and she announced donor letters have been sent.
Hancock County fair board members have invited Seneca, Allen and Wood counties to a meeting March 29.
The fair board received a letter from the Spirit of ’76 4-H club suggesting a new schedule for exiting the exhibit area after showing at the fair. The fair board formed a committee to meet with the club to discuss an acceptable process.
In other business, the board:
Distributed flyers for the Bob Evans fundraiser, 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday. Anyone presenting a flyer at the restaurant will have 15 percent of their sale donated to the fair.
Agreed to donate $50 to the Farm Bureau school program titled “Our Ohio – Your Backyard.”
Approved Bear Hollow Carvers returning for fair week at $1,400 per day for three days.
Heard 4-H clubs are selling green cards offering discounts at local establishments for $10.
Approved the purchases of a copier drum and new junior fair computer.
Formed a committee to update the fair bylaws and policies.
Heard the aluminum bleachers have been repaired and are being stabilized.
Will be compiling a list of trees for trimming before fair week.
Heard the junior fair foundation plans to blacktop areas and provide new hand dryers for the restrooms.
Discussed placing a fence around the shop area and 2014 basket choice.
Heard all accounts total $59,789.72. The loan balance is $35,000 plus interest.
Heard fair book changes are due April 8.
Announced the gun show with Izaak Walton League in the Livestock Pavilion April 12-13.
Is checking into regulations concerning the new electronic sign.
The group is to meet at 7:30 p.m. April 8.
