Man indicted on charges of theft
A man has been indicted on theft charges for allegedly taking payments for home repairs he did not perform.
Jeffrey S. Collins, 49, was indicted on one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony, and two counts of theft from an elderly person, one a third-degree felony and the other a fourth-degree felony, this week, according to court documents. He was served the indictment in the Seneca County jail, court documents show. A spokesman from the jail said Collins was in jail on previous theft charges and a probation violation.
Detective Sgt. Kevin Reinbolt of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said Collins allegedly had taken payments from three people in May and June of last year without providing outdoor home repairs he proposed.
One incident involved an 83-year-old woman, Reinbolt said.
Reinbolt said Collins had asked for 50 percent of the payment, and after receiving and cashing the checks, he did not return to perform the work.
Reinbolt said each of the down payments were for more than $2,000.
