Seneca voted best rodeo in state

Once again, the Seneca County Fair was voted the “Best rodeo in Ohio” for 2013. Agricultural Society members attended the Ohio Fair Managers’ Association state convention Jan. 9-12 in Columbus where they were awarded with a plaque. Tuesday night, board members shared their experiences at the convention that covered topics including animal sales, long-term planning, security, use of an erasable agricultural education board and the horseracing conferences. Entertainment contracts were signed and moneymaking projects were suggested.

After a discussion that included horse breeder Dan Corfman, members answered a roll call vote, passing the motion 10-2 to leave the North Central Ohio Horseracing circuit and enter one of the newly created state conferences.

The board accepted the resignation of Val Hohman, junior fair coordinator, effective Dec. 31. The fair is accepting applications until Feb. 1, that should include a resume and references, and candidates are subject to a background check and drug screening.

In other matters, the board:
