Puffenberger requested to keep seat
Seneca County Democratic Executive Committee recommended Chairman Mary Puffenberger maintain her position on the Board of Elections during a meeting Thursday.
Ohio Secretary of State John Husted makes the appointment after considering the party’s recommendation.
The committee also discussed an open position at the Board of Elections. Puffenberger said resumes have been opened and the board is arranging interviews for the open position.
The position of director can either go to current Deputy Director James Ehrman or the board can decide to hire directly into the position. Former director Andrea Carroll left office Jan. 3 for a position in the private sector.
Puffenberger also said Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald has selected Sharen Neuhardt as his running mate for the election. This selection comes after his first choice, State Sen. Eric Kearney, dropped out of the race.
Dayton native Neuhardt is an advocate for women’s healthcare and reproductive choices, including supporting Planned Parenthood.
The Democratic Party is to host its 4th annual Evening of Wines and Chocolates 6-9 p.m. Feb. 7 at the American Civil War Museum of Ohio, 217 S. Washington St.
A silent wine auction is to take place and proceeds are to go to support Democratic candidates. Cost is $20 per person. The event is to include four samples of wines and chocolates plus admission to the museum.
Reservations may be made by calling (567) 220-6016 or by sending a check to Tom Smathers, P.O. Box 9, Tiffin OH 44883. Checks can be made payable to the Seneca County Democratic Central Committee.
Treasurer Bernie Hohman said Democrats may choose to donate $1 to the Democratic Party when completing their tax forms. He said the donation comes out of the state funding and is redirected to the Democratic Party.
Puffenberger said there still are vacancies for precinct representatives. For a list of available precincts or to request to be appointed, contact her at (419) 618-8707.
