Police investigating burglary, assault

Police are currently investigating a burglary and assault reported early Thursday morning on Jefferson Street.

Detective Lt. Mark Marquis of the Tiffin Police Department said a man at a 100-block Jefferson Street apartment reported at 12:16 a.m. two men had walked into the apartment, assaulted him and then stole a small safe and game console. According to police reports, the man said he was hit with a hammer in the face.

Marquis said the man had an injury beside his left eye, but refused treatment.

The man told police one suspect appeared to be a black male. Police currently have no suspects, Marquis said.

Marquis said a small safe was found Thursday afternoon on Madison Street. According to police reports, it was found in the entryway of a 100 block Madison Street building.

Marquis said it was broken open, but it was unknown whether anything was missing from it.
