No suspects in burglary, car theft

Tiffin police are investigating a burglary and car theft reported early Monday morning at a Sycamore Street residence.

Detective Lt. Mark Marquis of the Tiffin Police Department said the burglary and theft, reported at a 100-block Sycamore Street residence just after 4 a.m., was discovered by a neighbor and caretaker of the property.

The neighbor had noticed broken glass, a door standing open and lights on throughout the residence. The neighbor also saw a vehicle was missing and contacted police, according to Tiffin police reports.

Marquis said the resident was in the second story of the house when the burglary occurred, and items taken from inside the residence included a wallet, car keys and electronics.

The stolen vehicle, a 2011 Mercedes, was recovered around 5 a.m. in a field in the area of East TR 122 and North TR 15. It was found abandoned with its air bag deployed, according to police reports.

“It appears the vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and ended up in field,” Marquis said.

The vehicle, which suffered major damage, was brought to the police station for processing, Marquis said. An agent from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to assist in the processing, he said.

Marquis said police currently have no suspects, but the incident remains under investigation.
