Wyandot barn burns, no injuries

Five fire departments responded to a barn fire Thursday afternoon near Carey.

Carey Fire Chief Chad Snyder said Carey firefighters were aided at the fire, reported just after 3 p.m., by Upper Sandusky, Wharton, McCutchenville and Sycamore fire departments.

The fire, which was at the intersection of CH 4 and CH 106 in Wyandot County, ignited after a loader backfired and caught straw on fire, he said.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down in about 15 minutes, Snyder said.

Forty feet of the barn, which is a total of 35 feet wide and 320 feet long, was damaged. Snyder said it is repairable. He said straw and farm equipment were housed inside the barn.

No injuries were reported, Snyder said.
