Four Attica council members sworn in
ATTICA – Attica Village Council Monday adopted a resolution setting 2014 annual appropriations and placing a replacement levy on the ballot.
Appropriations total $3,987,620 plus adjustments for a carry-over balance.
The levy is a five-year, 3-mill replacement levy for police protection, which also requests the county auditor’s certification of amounts and rates.
Four newly elected council members were sworn in by Solicitor Rick Palau. They include Kirk Stanfield, Gary Jordan, Jeff Painter and George Yakoubian. The new term is effective Jan. 1.
Village Administrator Greg Martin reported the village is applying for Community Development Block Grant funds and two public hearings are scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 30 and 10 a.m. Jan. 6 at the municipal building.
He informed council a possible tile break is creating a water overflow at a catch basin near the cemetery on North Liberty Street and will have to be investigated.
Fiscal Officer Pat Krebs reported $733,003.21 in all funds.
In other matters, council:
Adopted an ordinance approving 3 percent pay raises for Martin, Emily Bates and Jared Halbeisen.
Adopted an ordinance to reimburse billing clerk Bates for health insurance premiums of $280 per month.
Adopted an ordinance to eliminate a 3 percent water/sewer annual rate increase for 2014.
Heard the second reading of a resolution accepting revised amounts and rates by the budget commission.
Council is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 9.
