Fair board to consider race changes

Steve Bates from Wood County, representing horse owners from District 6 in Ohio, addressed Seneca County Agricultural Society board members Tuesday night about the changes of the racing circuits to conferences. He explained the process of participation and fees. Fairs have the choice of staying in their current circuits, but he said 13 fairs have committed to participating in the conference. Four conferences are to be established with an equal number of fairs in each region.

Regional coordinators are to be available to assist fairs with their racing program but Jane Weller, secretary/treasurer of North Central Ohio Horseracing Circuit, said the regional coordinators would not be willing to do what the circuit workers are doing for participation now.

The fair board took no action but will discuss it further before the March 15 deadline.

OSU Extension agent Anne Golden said the horse council now is under 4-H authority.
