New conference center opens at Terra State
FREMONT – Terra State Community College inaugurated a new facility, the Conference and Hospitality Center, Thursday during a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The building, Building G, originally was the college’s Early Learning Center. Renovations to the building were completed by KF Construction Inc. The building increased in size to 9,700 square feet.
Total cost of the renovation was $2.4 million.
The building is to serve students in the hospitality program at Terra with a culinary lab and the ability to cater events and conferences. Local vendors also are to be able to use the facility for events, said Terra State’s Michael Shirtz, dean of business, communication and the arts.
“I am proud that when the students complete their degrees from the hospitality program, they will be prepared for many other opportunities,” Shirtz said.
The building is equipped with an entry and reception area, a full-service kitchen with a ventless dish machine, roll-in and section refrigerator, convection steamer, double convection oven, char broiler, fryer, ice machine and more.
The building also has a 4,300-square-foot conference space that can seat 300 people. The space can be divided into five smaller rooms with sound-deadening dividers.
Technology in the building includes 16 security cameras, energy-efficient hand dryers in the restrooms; audio and video technology and a wireless internet connection.
Jerri Miller, executive director of the Sandusky County Convention and Visitors Bureau, spoke at the ceremony. She said the facility is a great opportunity to help in expanding travel and tourism in Sandusky County.
Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents John Carey said community colleges, including Terra State are succeeding in moving Ohio forward.
Also under construction is the culinary lab in Building B. It is to open in the spring.
