Horse racing changes discussed

Janie Weller, secretary/treasurer of North Central Ohio Horseracing Circuit, addressed members of the Seneca County Agricultural Society Tuesday night about the changes Ohio wants to make in the racing process. She represents Attica, Mount Gilead, Hancock, Logan and Seneca county fairs. The state wants to eliminate the circuits and create four quadrants of the state called conferences. Not all fairs are in agreement with the changes and further discussions will follow.

OSU Extension?Educator Ann Golden said junior leadership is making and selling candies for the holidays.

In other matters, the board:

Approved the financial report that found $78,495.75 in all accounts.

Approved writing off several checks to clear the 2013 books.

Heard the storage space is filled.

Approved OSS Joint Solid Waste collection dates at the fairgrounds for 2014 – April 26, May 31, Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Sept. 27 and Oct. 11.

Learned air conditioning and a furnace are being installed in the youth center by Green Heating, $11,779 paid by the Junior Fair Foundation.

Discussed pouring concrete for a better incline to enter the educational building for a new door.

Discussed a new computerized sign for the fair’s front entrance.

Discussed their insurance company suggesting closing in the open steps in the bleachers.

Is to examine the fair schedule next month in preparation for lining up activities during the annual conference.

Announced the District 1 meeting is Saturday at Fulton County fairgrounds.

Announced the District 8 meeting is Dec. 3 at Attica fairgrounds.

Announced the Ohio Fair Managers’ Association conference is Jan. 9-12.

The board is to meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10.
