Health commissioner to retire

Health Commissioner Marjorie Broadhead announced her retirement from the Seneca County General Health District at the health board meeting Thursday.

Broadhead is to remain in her position until April 30.

Board President Chris Willman read a letter from Broadhead in which she made the announcement and expressed her appreciation to members of the board and wished them success in the future. Broadhead was present at the meeting.

The board unanimously accepted her resignation.

All submissions for the position of health commissioner are due by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 6. In the letter, Broadhead said that initially, candidates will be screened and ranked by administrative staff. The search committee is then tp have the opportunity to complete phone, Skype, and in-person interviews to find a replacement.

Broadhead said the timeline was flexible.

Environmental Division Director Laura Wallrabenstein gave a second reading on the 2014 Food Service License Fees.

The proposal increases the fees about 40 percent. Wallrabenstein said the fees have increased due to the Ohio Department of Health’s mandated method to determine cost.

The public hearing is scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Monday.

In her report, WIC Director Chris Huth said the department needed to do more outreach to find more potentially eligible participants. She said with the estimate from the state, the county should have 2,100 eligible participants. At this time, the county only has about 1,600.

She said she is looking for trends in the county’s statistics over the past several years and is to look into the efficiency of the staff.
