Fire damages Bettsville house
BETTSVILLE – A Bettsville home was damaged by fire Saturday afternoon.
Gary Rubel, training officer with Bascom Joint Fire District, said the fire was in the upper level of the structure and caused “very significant damage.”
Mike Snell, assistant chief of Bettsville Volunteer Fire Department, said the house was uninhabitable, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were undetermined Saturday afternoon at the scene.
Snell said the resident of the home, which is located at 106 Wilson St., likely would seek shelter with family.
Bettsville Volunteer Fire Department, Bascom Joint Fire District, Kansas fire and the Echo 1 unit responded to the scene, according to a spokesperson for the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office. Old Fort Fire Department was later put on stand-by.
The Seneca County Chaplain Corps. provided canteen service to firefighters at the scene, Snell said.
